I'm not sure how many people are aware of this, but tribal casinos in the US now more than double the earnings of Nevada casinos.
There now are 411 Indian casinos in the United States, operated by 223 tribes in 28 states. More than half the 341 federally recognized Indian tribes in the continental United States operate casinos.Link (thanks, Mark!)
Kill in what sense? Vegas had another record-setting year in 04; Nevada win was up 10% year-on-year, tying the growth in tribal win exactly. Expanded gambling seems to help Vegas rather than hurt it: with more local availability, more folks give it a shot & shake some of their preconceptions & ethical concerns: some of them develop addictions, too: they like what they see, keep coming back, and eventually check out Las Vegas.
More gambling leads to more gambling, pretty much always.

I would think increased gambling would help Vegas & Nevada. Give people a taste of gambling and they eventually take the plunge and head out West.

The link has expired, and my ninja searching abilities are blocked by a dark chi or something. So I can't comment much on this... But, couldn't the same thing be said for online poker killing the live poker scene in Vegas? As well as anyone knows the live poker has exploded since. Almost every casino's poker room has expanded.
Posted by: Mike on March 3, 2005 03:53 PMI would tend to agree with Mike, the increase in play seems to spawn more and more poker players everywhere. While the total revenue in terms of percentage may be down for Vegas, I'll bet the actual revenue is way up....
