Subluminal has a little entry that gives another perspective on how to take a poker beat.

It goes a few rounds, and finally your opponent calls. You reveal your pair, and he shows a straight flush that, in all honesty, would have beaten yours. He proceeds to scoop up a hefty chunk of your money for the night.
